Master and slave

I woke up this morning with this poem in mind:

Vorbește, Doamne, căci sunt rob
Speak Lord, for I am a slave
și robul Tău ascultă.
And Your slave listens.
Mai toarnă-mi iar ulei în ciob,
Pour again oil in my shard,
mai dă-mi din grâul Tău un bob
From your wheat give me another grain
și dragoste mai multă!
And still more love!

Vorbește, Doamne, căci în piept
Speak Lord, for in my breast
mi-e inima firavă.
My heart is frail.
Nebun mă face-orice-nțelept.
Every wiseman makes me out to be a fool
Dar eu cu mai mult dor Te-aștept
But I await You with even more yearning
în vremea de zăbavă...
in the tarrying hour…

Vorbește, Doamne, căci sunt gol
Speak Lord, for I am naked
și-mi bate-n suflet vântul.
And in my soul the wind is howling.
Căci mii de corbi îmi dau ocol,
And thousands of ravens fly around me
de când pe-al inimii pristol
Ever since on my heart’s altar
Ți-ai așezat Cuvântul.
You’ve placed Your Word.

Mai dă-mi din pâinea Ta un drob
Give me another morsel from Your Bread
și flacără mai multă.
And more flame.
Chiar dacă-s fiu și nu-s un ciob,
For even though I am a son and not a shard,
dar eu din dragoste sunt rob
but out of love I’ve become a slave
și robul Tău ascultă…
And Your slave listens…

“Adopt the same attitude as that of Christ Jesus, who, existing in the form of God, did not consider equality with God as something to be exploited. Instead, he emptied himself by assuming the form of a servant, taking on the likeness of humanity. And when he had come as a man, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death— even to death on a cross. For this reason, God highly exalted him and gave him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow—in heaven and on earth and under the earth—and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” – Philippians 2:5-11

My precious Father, were I able to control my thoughts in such a way that none of them would darken my light, I could boast of having the mind of Your beloved Son. I could then forget about this world and all its trappings. I could then find pleasure in humility. I could then desire not to be seen at all but be like a piece of glass in Your hands; You would be seen through me even though imperfectly. But my thoughts are not Christ’s thoughts. I am seen. And more than once the enemy has pointed at my bad attitude or my ‘witty’ words to attack You. I haven’t been a good testimony to You.

Lord, my Lord… deliver me from myself. Christ Jesus, author and finisher of all that is precious, Master of my heart, I look to You, don’t let me look in vain. Train these duplicitous eyes of mine to learn from You. You, of whom the Father testified, “You are my beloved Son; with you I am well pleased.” (Mark 1:11), hide me in Yourself. I know no human can please God outside of You. Teach me how to be obedient, I’d settle for less stubborn, less distracted, less proud, less manipulative… less me… less…

Rise up over my skies, over all I hold in high regard, and let your glory cover my earth, my shame, my inadequacy, everything I should be but fail to be. I know You don’t share your glory with anyone else (Is. 42:8) let alone me, yet in my foolishness I began to reign, to demand, to expect. Forgive me Lord…

Instruct my heart to follow after You and don’t let me try to drag You into making my own plans successful. Help me discern my will from Yours, my desires from Yours, my pleasure from yours, my voice from Yours… Sometimes I imitate Your voice just to manipulate myself into doing what I want… forgive this wretched child of Yours. Don’t let me run in vain, don’t let my efforts be for nothing, don’t let my words be just words. I depend on You even for my wanting You, Lord… help me.

I love You, my King. Despite everything, I love You, Lord. Your grace towards me was not in vain! Is not in vain, will never be in vain. You’ve not toiled for nothing when You began to work in me, Lord. Your work will be rewarded, my faithful King. You deserve to be rewarded, make me part of  Your reward. Please...

Wise?

I have always wished to be wise. Always. Having said that, I don't mean that I didn't wish for anything else. Oh, I have wished ...
